Gearbox

To fit the gearbox crossmember on an automatic, you can just use the factory vk gearbox mounts and crossmember and it will all fit in sweet. Although if you wanna fit a manual, custom gearbox mounts must be fabricated. I am still yet to do this, and this will require welding to make one, I will update this page as soon as I get one fabricated.

For the gearbox mount a bit of hunting had to be done, I was assured first off that the standard vk manual gearbox mount would fit by the guys at ABC Auto Parts... So I bought one for $30 and took it home, and guess what, it didn't fit... The holes were too close to each other, So you could bolt one side in, but not the other. So next off I went to the guys at Supercheap Auto, They told me that the vk auto mount was too be used, I get home and its the same one!!! GRRR!!!!

Next week I went back to Supercheap Auto and returned their gearbox mount and had a look at the catalogue, and sure enough I spotted one which 'looked like' it would fit. But they didn't have stock :( and it was supposedly a rare item. I then headed over to Auto(ricer)barn and they had one in stock, it was the last one!  I paid the $40 and took it home and sure enough it fitted! YAY My hunch was right!

For the record it was a gearbox mount off a HQ Kingswood on the turbo 400 gearbox.

26-10-03: Jaws and myself continued on the gearbox mount situation. We obtained some right angle bits of steel (pictured below) to construct the crossmember with. We then measured up the required length on each side and cut it to fit. Its not in place as yet because it will need to be welded together, We have it sitting in there at the moment, with gravity holding it place.
